About the job: The primary responsibility of the Kennel Assistant is to assist the veterinary assistants, licensed veterinary technicians, and the doctors with patient care related tasks. The kennel assistant operates under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
- Very basic care of the patients (feeding, walking, assisting during other treatments), restraint during procedures and helping to endure that the veterinary assistants, licensed veterinary technicians, and the doctors have what they need to perform their patient care duties.
- General cleaning and maintenance of the hospital and the hospital grounds both interior and exterior. Tasks may include but are not limited to laundry, sweeping, mopping, disinfecting of exterior ground surfaces, general cleaning of the facility as needed or by schedule.
- Enforcement of hospital policy, procedures, and protocol.
- Additional duties as assigned or needed to maintain the efficient handling of hospital business needs.
- The kennel assistant reports directly to the Clinical Coordinator and will also receive additional direction from the Hospital Operations Manager, Hospital Administrator, and doctors.
- Adhere to all policies in the LVVSC Employee Manual.
- Follows all procedures as written in each LVVSC Department Manual when working in that department.
- Follow OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous materials.
- Follow established hospital safety guidelines regarding animal handling, controlled substances, radiographs, bite wounds, etc.
What you will bring:
- Some knowledge of veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.
- Ability to lift 40lbs.
- Self-starter and team player.
- The ability to follow directions with and without supervision
- the ability to recognize certain behaviors in animals
- the ability to learn and understand medical terminology and minor procedures
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00am – 5:30pm
