Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center is the only multi-specialty referral hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. We currently have specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, and ophthalmology, as well as an in-house blood bank and a certified rehabilitation practitioner. LVVSC is adjacent to Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care which is southern Nevada’s only 24-hour emergency and critical care facility with board-certified criticalists.
Our hospital is located between the Las Vegas strip and Summerlin, a beautiful community at the base of the Red Rock conservation area.
Veterinary student externships are designed to give veterinary students hands-on experience outside of the university setting. Externships allow opportunities to explore a new specialty, increase experience within a specialty and compare learning environments in different practice settings (for example, multi-disciplinary specialty practice versus general practice; high versus low caseload, rural versus urban practice, differences in species treated).
Externships can also serve as formal or informal working interviews for permanent post-graduation positions or for training programs such as rotating internships or our ER mentorship VERVe program. These visits provide veterinary students with a first-hand look at how a practice works before signing on and an opportunity to evaluate the hospital culture.
As a teaching facility, the Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center offer veterinary student externship opportunities for veterinary students wishing to advance their training.
****Minimum Qualifications****
Must be enrolled as a Doctoral of Veterinary Medicine student in an AVMA accredited program.
Externships are offered in the specialties of Oncology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, and Surgery.
